i remember the joomsef manual use to include the recommended settings for htaccess. I think it has been removed. if not please direct me to this page.

some of my sites have an old file than appears 3 times as lengthy as a new file i have which i believe was bundled with the component and i dont think works well.

Will you provide me your recommended settings?

the recommended is the one distributed with Joomla. With version 1.5 no modification are usually needed. (except renaming htaccess.txt to .htaccess + possibly setting correct RewriteBase if site is not placed in the domain root; all of this is described in manual)

In Joomla 1.0, you need one extra thing, which was to uncomment the 3rd party SEF add-on section.

The 1.5 .htaccess is much shorter, but that is ok.

Hello, I am new here so please be patient :)

When I have the JoomSEF enabled with all the default settings and activate sef in site->global I get a "no page found" message.

My .htaccess file is empty (?!)

What could be the problem here?

Well, the empty .htaccess could very likely be the problem.

In such case, make sure to rename the original htaccess.txt distributed with Joomla to .htaccess.

Hello Jan and thank you for the input. I uploaded a htaccess from another joomla site I run and renamed it. seems to be working :))

I will be testing further on some sites with languages and VM.
