I don't know if I am posting this thread in the right Forum, but here's my issue.

For a couple of years I build a site for a client of mine (Joomla 1.0.12). As to date the site is working properly. Also the site ranking is also very high.

Now the client wants a complete new website with the same content. I am building the new site with the latest Joomla version. He wants to be the site at the same level of Google ranking. The site may not fall back in the google ranking. Also the client doesn't want the visitor getting a 404-error because of a google search result.

I've got a couple of questions regarding the above:

- Is there an option to avoiding 404-errors, because of the new site structure?
- Can I fix this with a sitemap (i.e. the joomap extension)?
- Is it also possible to make a custom 404-page instead of the standard 404 page?
- Is there some sort of tool to automatically avoiding 404-pages or create redirections to the new pages or homepage of the new site?

I know that I ask a lot but I think I am at the good location for the correct answers.
