Hello,
what you have uploaded here seems like .htaccess for Joomla 1.0.x, not for Joomla 1.5.x.
Joomla's 1.5.x .htaccess file contains following block:
########## Begin - Joomla! core SEF Section
#
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/index.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (/|\.php|\.html|\.htm|\.feed|\.pdf|\.raw|/[^.]*)$ [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) index.php
RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization},L]
#
########## End - Joomla! core SEF Section
Anyway, that may not be the main issue in your case.
How does the site behave when you turn JoomSEF on, but keep the Joomla's default mod_rewrite on? Does it work then as expected?

I think this is not directly a problem related to JoomSEF but rather with mod_rewrite configuration at your server.
If you want this solved fast, maybe the easiest way might be getting an hour of paid support, so our admin can check this directly at your site, do some debugging and find the reason.

Thank you.

We have checked it. The problem is/was caused by other plugin - Error404 by Alain Bolli.
This calls a 303 redirect "See other" when active together with JoomSEF.

Do not ask me why. :-)
Anyway, this plugin is obviously not compatible with JoomSEF and needs to be off when JoomSEF is active.

We deactivated it and kept JoomSEF on. All is working just fine.
