i do not see anything else intercepting the request for an invalid page. if i leave it as the default joomla page, i get the 404 header. if i use a custom page, i get a 301 to a 200 response header which is far from ideal.

I have tried to use the Custom 404 Page with a static page with title = 404 and i have also selected a content item to use as my 404 page. both work but instead of generating a 404 server header, they issue a 301. i need this to be a 404 - how can i get this to work right?

jan - are you able to provide any more details? this poses a major problem and requires that each URL be unique to the language...

is there a solution that would allow us to use the same URL for multiple languages such as the homepage issue that i outlined above?

Switching language isn't a problem. It appears that there is an inherent flaw in the SEF module for JoomFish. From an SEO standpoint, duplicate content is a bad thing. JoomFish and your SEF module enable URLs extensions to be valid under every domain on the site. The URL should have a second requirement tied to a domain. Another example is now surfacing.

We do not use a filename for our "home page". We just use www.domain.com/ or www.domain.es/. If we use your SEF module for titles and meta tags we cannot duplicate the blank "SEF URL" because you have a unique index constraint on the "SEF URL" meaning a URL is only valid once.

I have the following:

www.somewhere.com/english-url
www.somewhere.es/spanish-url

but the following also work:

www.somewhere.com/spanish-url
www.somewhere.es/english-url

it works fine in spanish and keeps the site in spanish... same with english... i just run into this issue, any ideas?

I am using custom domains for my languages, .es and .com which is working fine. The only caveat being that URLs for .es also display under .com with the Spanish content. Is there a way to force Joomla to redirect to the correct domain (.es) if the real URL has lang=es for example or vice-versa for english?
