Thanks David, that's great, using the .htaccess line has worked and I can now get the alias feature to work.
Thanks again for taking the time to look at this for me.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply, I'm using version 3.7.2 - the free version. I have changed the alias as you suggested and also checked that the fix index php option is enabled. Perhaps I should try un-installing and re-installing again?
Thanks again

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply, I have changed it to:
General/house-training-your-dog.html
in the aliases tab (it removes the first / if you try to save it there) but still no joy - it's not redirecting. Is there anything else I could try to get it to work?
Cheers
Bonnie

I have been having some trouble getting 301 redirects to work, I installed JoomSEF after a previous installation of SH404SEF. After getting the problem I followed the instructions about checking there is no jos_redirection table, I uninstalled JoomSEF, checked there was no table with redirection in the title using PHPMyAdmin, and then I re-installed JoomSEF. 301 redirects are still not working, and a quick check has shown that there is still no jos_redirection table in my database - has it failed to be created perhaps when I reinstalled, and is there anything I can do to fix it?
I am trying to redirect:
www.dogs-day.com/index.php/General/house-training-your-dog.html
to
www.dogs-day.com/general-help-advice/house-training-your-dog
in the url alias tab I have:
dogs-day.com/index.php/General/house-training-your-dog.html
index.php/General/house-training-your-dog.html
Many thanks!
