Answer
Booking requires javascript framework Mootools. This framework is part of Joomla. With many Joomla installations there should be no problem. But when Mootools is not presented or broken then calendar cannot work.
Mootools is broken when is on page together with jQuery. Simple solution is to run jQuery in non-conflict mode.
Mootools is not presented when some system plugin disable him. Such plugin is for example Dismoot.
